Module 12

Andy Warhol: Images of an Image I chose to watch this documentary because I am interested in Andy Warhol as a whole.  I went to the Warhol museum over the summer and it was truly an interesting experience.  Watching this documentary furthered my opinion of him being an innovator within the art community.  However I wish it spoke more of him as a person rather than reflecting on the same pieces of artwork.  I feel his personal life had a major impact on his art which I think could have been elaborated on within this; being that it is a documentary on his images. Which is interesting that the text actually had a brief section that was about Andy Warhol's life.  Uncertainty: Modernity and Art This documentary was really funny to me because it seemed as though the narrator was out of breath when he was walking around the gallery in those scenes.  It was interesting to get a perspective on contemporary art and learning about the general statement it makes ...

Gallery Visit: Exhibition

A Dream world of Imagination: Charles E. Burchfield's Golden Year    The theme of the exhibition was that of symbols that related to Charles Burchfield.  Many of the symbols correlated with human emotion and in particular, his.  A main theme was his relationship to the natural world.  Many crickets were reoccurring, making note of their hum, in written poems or short stories below the works.   The gallery was set up so that there was minimal lighting.  The room was quite dim, with soft yellow light on the works of Burchfield.  Any works that seemed colorful however had a white lighting.  The walls were a soft off-white.  The space was set up so you enter the room and follow the wall to a bigger, more spaced out room with more works.  The inner architecture consisted of white walls and tile flooring. The movement of the gallery didn't seem to make much sense to me in terms of set up and I felt like it was easy for m...

Module 11: Blog Review

Dada Surrealism: I chose this video because on of my favorite artists is Marcel Duchamp.  I also had read a book by Jung which discussed the connection between the subconscious and art in specific reference to the dada movement so it is something that interested me.  The video examined the different approaches to the dada movement from different artists' approach.  I really enjoyed the artist George Grosz and his ideology when it came to art.  It was interesting that he disagreed with the involvement with artists in politics and then eventually began creating artwork that was a political response.  The surrealism part of the video was also interesting in how it described the interest of the human mind.  It made me think of when I went to the Dali museum in Florida last summer and seeing the strange paintings there.  However I really enjoy surrealism because it is this mix of a skewed perception of reality through the mind in a real space almost. Ma...
